The Upper Mustang Trek is a unique and extraordinary journey into the former forbidden Kingdom of Lo, a region steeped in Tibetan Buddhist culture that remained isolated for centuries. Often called the "Last Forbidden Kingdom," it offers a stark, dramatic landscape of wind-swept canyons, eroded cliffs, and ochre- colored valleys reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau. This trek is a cultural pilgrimage as much as a physical one, featuring ancient monasteries, medieval cave dwellings, and the walled capital city of Lo Manthang. Access is controlled by a special restricted area permit, which preserves its fragile environment and unique heritage. The experience is more about deep cultural immersion and exploring a landscape unlike any other in Nepal than about towering, snow-clad peaks.
